Millions of people across Southern California faced frightening new wildfire warnings Tuesday and tens of thousands saw their power shut off as strong winds blew across the parched landscape around Los Angeles where two massive blazes have been burning for a week.

Forecasters paused the "particularly dangerous situation" extreme fire weather warning for Los Angeles and Ventura counties Tuesday afternoon, but warned that winds are expected to pick back up.

Gusts of 55 mph to 70 mph in northern L.A. and eastern Ventura counties are no longer part of the red flag warning. But residents should still be cautious.
