Jelena Ostapenko ended Iga Swiatek’s three-year reign at the Qatar Open in the semifinals. No. 37-ranked Ostapenko won 6-3, 6-1 and improved her record against No. 2 Swiatek to 5-0. The Latvian is the only active player to have faced Swiatek at least twice and kept a winning record.

Iga Swiatek's historic run in Doha has officially ended. Entering Friday's match against Jelena Ostapenko, Swiatek had won 15 straight matches and three consecutive titles at the Qatar Open (called the Qatar TotalEnergies Open 2025 or Doha Open).

Swiatek has never beaten the Latvian and was immediately put under pressure, losing her serve in the opening game of the match.

Three-time defending champion Iga Swiatek reached the Qatar Open semifinals by beating Elena Rybakina, 6-2, 7-5, on Thursday. Swiatek will face Jelena Ostapenko, who beat Ons Jabeur, 6-2, 6-2, for a spot in the final.

Iga Swiatek set an outstanding Qatar Open record and reached a significant WTA 1000 milestone with her win over Elena Rybakina. The defending champion earned an excellent 6-2, 7-5 victory over world No 7 Rybakina in the quarter-finals in Doha.

There are four outstanding WTA Doha quarterfinal matches scheduled for Thursday. That includes four-time French Open champion Iga Swiatek’s battle against Elena Rybakina.
