The Kansas plant where the small SUV is built ended production of the Chevrolet Malibu sedan this month ahead of a shift to EV assembly.

GM is investing $390 million at its Kansas assembly plant to build next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EVs. GM plans to end production of its Chevrolet Malibu in the coming weeks. GM had said in May that when it resumed production in 2025 in Kansas it would build both the Bolt EV and XT4 on the same assembly line but now will only build Bolt vehicles.

The Fairfax facility was due to build both the XT4 and Chevy’s new Bolt EV – scheduled to begin production in late 2025 – next year, but parent company GM says the plant will now only be used to make the Bolt. Fairfax currently also builds the Chevrolet Malibu sedan, but production of the mid-size sedan ends this month.

General Motors will end production of the Cadillac XT4 in January to free up capacity at the compact crossover's Kansas plant for production of a next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EV, Reuters reported on Thursday, citing comments from the automaker.

Cadillac’s small crossover, the XT4, is bowing out as General Motors has confirmed production will cease in January 2025.Originally, GM was only planning a temporary production halt at its Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas to prepare for the next-generation Chevrolet Bolt EV.
