Greenville County voters have rejected a capital project sales tax that would have gone toward updating and fixing the area’s deteriorating road inventory.

The intended increase would have helped to fix roads and bridges in the county. The eight year tax would have generated more than $1 billion.

After more than a year of council members debating, voters will have the final say Tuesday on whether or not Greenville County will have a 1 percent sales tax. The tax is estimated to generate $1 billion dollars over 8 years.
