Authorities say a man fatally shot a Texas sheriff’s deputy in Houston, prompting a massive search involving multiple law enforcement agencies.

A manhunt ended in Texas when a Houston man accused of shooting and killing a deputy serving a warrant on him in the parking lot of a Dollar Tree, was fatally shot by police.

Brazoria County Sheriff's Office Deputy Jesus Vargas was shot and killed while serving a warrant in southwest Houston.

The officer who died was identified as Jesus Vargas, a 17-year veteran of the Brazoria County Sheriff's Office. Police later killed the suspected shooter, 56-year-old Robert Davis III, after an hours-long manhunt.
