Voters in Portland, Oregon, have elected political outsider Keith Wilson as their next mayor. Wilson, a Portland native and CEO of a trucking company, ran on an ambitious pledge to end unsheltered homelessness within a year of taking office.

Portland's presumptive Mayor-elect Keith Wilson gave a victory speech Thursday afternoon, speaking to supporters, other elected officials and city council candidates at the Charles Jordan Community Center.

Today is the deadline to mail ballots or drop them in ballot boxes, which will be available until 8 p.m. In Portland, voters will participate in a historic election, selecting a new mayor and 12 City Council members as the city transitions to a new form of city government.
