The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the interim protection from arrest granted to Malayalam film actor Siddique in an alleged rape case.Interim Order extendedA bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma extended its interim order of September 30 in which it granted him interim protection from arrest in the case and directed him to cooperate in the investigation.

The Supreme Court bench passed the order after senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing for Siddique, said he had a bad throat and sought some time to argue the matter.

A bench of Justices Bela M. Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma extended the interim order issued on September 30, which had granted Siddique interim protection from arrest in the case. The court also directed him to continue cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

The actor, through his counsel, informed the Supreme Court that the police repeatedly demanded his phone and laptop from the time of the alleged crime. Justice Satish Chandra Sharma questioned how someone could be expected to provide a phone used in 2016.
