The balance of power in the U.S. Senate is taking form as election results were released Tuesday night, with one Senate seat flipped so far in a win for Republicans. Republican Gov. Jim Justice of West Virginia won the U.

Republicans won control of the Senate in Tuesday’s elections, gaining seats in West Virginia and Ohio. Other tight races remained too close to call in both the House and the Senate, as Democrats were hoping to win a House majority as voters across the nation cast ballots.

Republicans notched their first flip of a Senate seat on Tuesday night with Gov. Jim Justice winning the seat being vacated by the retirement of Joe Manchin.
