Voters in South Dakota have rejected a proposal to add protections for abortion rights to the state constitution, preserving a near-total ban there.

In Florida, constitutional amendments need at least 60% of the vote to be adopted. Amendment 3, which would have allowed people 21 and older to use marijuana without any medical reason, got about 56% of the vote.

A ballot measure to legalize the recreational sale and use of marijuana in Florida failed to pass late Tuesday, sending shares of pot companies into freefall and dealing a blow to cannabis firms that had invested millions in the legalization campaign.
