A person was fatally shot behind a supermarket in Redwood City early Thursday morning, according to police. According to Lt. Jeff Clements of the Redwood City Police Department, officers learned that someone was lying on the road behind the Whole Foods Market store in the area of Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue.

REDWOOD CITY — A person found shot behind a supermarket died early Thursday, police said. Police were dispatched to the corner of Adams Street at Jefferson Avenue about 1:40 a.m. after receiving reports that somebody was down in the road behind the Whole Foods Market, Redwood City spokesperson Capt. Ashley Osborne said in a statement.

Police say Koby Burkhart, 22, claimed he shot Ricky Langs, 62, because he had a gun, and he was afraid of being shot. However, Langs did not have a gun in his car.
