As first reported by Variety in October, Zimmer's music for Denis Villeneuve's sci-fi epic faced a speed bump when an independent review questioned whether the score met the Academy's eligibility standards.

Director Denis Villeneuve and composer Hans Zimmer are determined to get an Oscar nomination for Zimmer’s “Dune: Part Two” score. According to Variety, Warner Bros. has submitted the sci-fi sequel’s score to the Academy despite the question as to whether the score will qualify under Academy rules.

Quentin Tarantino has not seen Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” movies and has no intention of changing that despite the rave reactions. During an interview on “The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast” (the same interview where Tarantino defended “Joker: Folie à Deux”),

Warner Bros. is still submitting Dune 2's score for Academy Awards consideration. Last month, it was announced that Hans Zimmer's score for Dune 2 wouldn't be eligible for Academy Awards consideration given that the movie's music surpasses the Academy's limit on pre-existing music and is ineligible to be nominated in the Best Original Score category.
