Mount Pleasant officials said 12 Canada geese found dead at a pond in a park were taken by the state Department of Environmental Conservation for testing. The birds were found Sunday, Feb. 2, at Carroll Park, on Rollings Hill Road in the Thornwood hamlet. The town has also notified the county Department of Health.

DEC received 12 dead geese collected from Otisco Lake and sent them to Schuler’s lab. Initial test results are “presumptive positive for HPAI,” DEC said, referring to highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly known as avian flu or bird flu.
