Julius Gaines, 56, of Newark was charged with first-degree murder and weapons offenses after he allegedly fatally stabbed Rodney J. Mayes, 56, also of Newark in a ShopRite parking lot on Springfield Avenue Monday.

Police are investigating after a man was fatally stabbed during an argument in the parking lot of a ShopRite in New Jersey Monday night.

A North Jersey man was stabbed to death outside a ShopRite grocery store in Newark on Monday night, cops said. Rodney Mayes, a 56-year-old man from East Orange, was killed following an argument outside the store, NJ.com reported.

The 56-year-old was in a verbal dispute with another man before he was stabbed outside the ShopRite, prosecutors said.
