How Giants' Logan Webb helped Justin Verlander prepare for Spring Training debut
A long time Major League veteran made his first appearance for the San Francisco Giants during spring training.
Justin Verlander struck out one and allowed a solo home run while pitching two innings in his spring training debut for the San Francisco Giants.
SURPRISE, Ariz. — Bryce Eldridge, the San Francisco Giants’ top prospect, told reporters earlier this week that his main goal during his first major-league spring training was to make a good impression. One game into Cactus League play and it’s safe to say he’s done so.
For the San Francisco Giants, Bryce Eldridge is the future at first base. The 2023 first-round pick is participating in his first Major League spring training.
Verlander said his average velocity in spring training has a tendency to oscillate from year to year. Early in his career, Verlander topped out at 92-93 mph, but would ramp up to triple digits by the time the season started. Other years, Verlander would sit in the mid-90s and maintain into the season.
