Less than a week after losing its defensive coordinator to the NFL, Notre Dame is set to lure Chris Ash from the NFL to be the new DC in South Bend, Ind., ESPN first reported Wednesday. Ash, 51, has been in the NFL since the 2021 season and was a scout for Jacksonville in 2024.

Chris Ash has accepted the job of defensive coordinator at Notre Dame, sources told ESPN. It will be his fifth coordinator job at a power conference program.

“Sources: Chris Ash has accepted the job as the Notre Dame’s new defensive coordinator,” Pete Thamel said in a post. “Ash brings a blend of coordinating experience, NFL experience and high-end results as a collegiate coordinator. A deal is expected to be finalized in the near future.”

Once the Ohio State Buckeyes co-coordinator during its 2014 National Championship run, Ash since led Rutgers as its head coach before moving on to Texas and the NFL’s Jaguars and Raiders.
