The top diplomats of China and India have called for their nations to provide further mutual support, but avoided making any public statements about a long-standing border dispute when they met Monday in Beijing.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said the improvement in China-India relations is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and their people.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Monday called on Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and discussed issues of bilateral interest. Misri is here on a two-day visit for talks with Chinese officials to improve India-China relations.

Recalling the agreement between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping at their meeting in Kazan in October, the MEA said that the two sides “reviewed the state of India-China bilateral relations comprehensively” and “agreed to take certain people-centric steps to stabilize and rebuild ties”.
