The Justice Department special counsel whose six-year case into Hunter Biden was short-circuited last month by the unconditional pardon President Joe Biden granted to his son, criticized the outgoing president in his final report Monday night.

The criminal charges against Hunter Biden “were the culmination of thorough, impartial investigations, not partisan politics,” the prosecutor who led the probes said in a report that sharply criticized President Joe Biden for having maligned the Justice Department when he pardoned his son.

Hunter Biden was convicted on federal gun charges at a jury trial and pleaded guilty to federal tax charges before being pardoned by his father in December.

The report of the special counsel behind the prosecutions against Hunter Biden, David Weiss, was released Monday.

Weiss is the Trump-appointed U.S. attorney for Delaware, and he began investigating Hunter Biden before Joe Biden took office in 2021. Garland allowed Weiss to continue the probe and, in 2023, he made Weiss a special counsel — a status that gave Weiss greater independence to investigate and bring charges.

The report brings an end to a special counsel investigation that led to criminal charges, conviction and then a pardon by outgoing President Joe Biden.
