Per Spotrac, the Rockets were $50.6 million over the cap before the addition of Finney-Smith, but ESPN's Bobby Marks noted that Finney-Smith's contract comes out of the $14.1 million non-taxpayer mid-level exception.

On Monday, the Rockets first agreed to a four-year deal with Dorian Finney-Smith, as first reported by ESPN's Shams Charania. The deal is worth $53 million for the 3-and-D wing player and will last until 2029. Later in the evening, the Rockets pulled a surprise deal out of nowhere by signing Clint Capela to a $21.5 million deal over three years.
