In preparation for the parade, the city installed more than 200 steel plates and rubber mats to protect D.C.’s historic streets. Each plate weighed more than 1,000 pounds, and as of Sunday evening, crews were seen using heavy equipment to lift the final ones from Ohio Drive, Constitution Avenue, and Independence Avenue.

Much of the central and eastern parts of the U.S. will experience rain showers and scattered thunderstorms, forecasters said.
The Army is bringing 28 Abrams tanks to Saturday's parade, each valued at approximately $5 million. Accompanying them will be 28 Bradley fighting vehicles worth $4.5 million each, 28 Stryker infantry carriers and six M109 A7 Paladin self-propelled howitzers.
