The South Carolina National Guard has deployed aviation units to help battle a wildfire raging in Horry County, including a battalion from Greenville.

The driver, identified by the Horry County Coroner’s Office as 31-year-old Darius Holmes, was the only person in the car.

Bourcier said the district understands that the fires and smoke may still impact many families, and they will continue to work with parents to keep students safe.
