On a stellar day for the United States ski team, Lauren Macuga got her first World Cup win in a super-G and Lindsey Vonn impressed again in fourth place at St.

Breakout star Lauren Macuga and comeback queen Lindsey Vonn made it a classic Sunday for the United States ski team. Macuga's first World Cup race win -- in a super-G where the 40-year-old Vonn impressed again in fourth -- was no surprise to ski watchers who saw the 22-year-old American's fast-improving results.

Meanwhile, U.S. teammate Lauren Macuga dazzled in the Super-G, skiing to her first career World Cup win in 1:17.51. She looked to be in disbelief as she crossed the line and saw the time, a dominant 0.68 seconds clear of Austria’s Stephanie Venier in second. Italy’s Federica Brignone took the final podium spot.

Vonn won a record 43 downhills in her 82-win World Cup career. Her previous World Cup downhill had been in January 2019, placing ninth at Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

“Dad,” Lauren Macuga said, “I won.” She was speaking minutes after her first Alpine skiing World Cup victory, a super-G in St. Anton, Austria. A year earlier, the best finish of Lauren’s budding career had been 17th. She steadily improved since, strengthened in particular by gym work over the summer.

The United States star — the greatest downhill racer in women’s World Cup history — was fastest in the first part of the course, touching 77 miles per hour.

The race comes two months after the Olympic skier announced she was returning to compete in the sport, which was something “definitely not planned”

Lindsey Vonn races her first World Cup downhill in six years, live this weekend on Peacock. Vonn, who at age 40 came back this season after retiring in 2019, is expected to race a downhill on Saturday and super-G on Sunday.
