Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Thursday her government was deciding whether to initiate a lawsuit against Google for renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America on Google Maps.

Sheinbaum has repeatedly pointed to historical records that support the traditional name. She noted that the term “Gulf of Mexico” has been in use since 1607 and is recognized by the United Nations.
