Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the US, according to the American Heart Association's 2025 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Update. In the US, someone dies of cardiovascular disease every 34 seconds.

There is a new entry in the holiday horror movie canon coming this February. Like "Thanksgiving" and "Black Christmas" before it, "Heart Eyes" aims to find grisly fun in a holiday that typically isn't associated with the horror genre.

Directed by Josh Ruben, "Heart Eyes" is a lovesick holiday horror flick starring Olivia Holt, Mason Gooding and Gigi Zumbado. The film will be released in theaters nationwide on Feb. 7.

Then there was Geoffrey Chaucer, who wrote in his medieval poem “Parliament of Fowl” that English birds mated on Valentine’s Day—“For this was on the seynt Valentynes Day, Whan every foul cometh there to chese his makes”—making every 14th-century couple start whispering sweet nothings to each other before dying of the bubonic plague or whatever.
