Time and again during his campaign, former and future president Donald Trump made the Jan.6 rioters who stormed the U.S. Capitol a centerpiece of his rallies, calling them heroes or hostages and promising pardons.

Joseph Biggs, who is serving a 17-year prison term, was the first of dozens of Proud Boys members found guilty in connection with Jan. 6 to formally request clemency.

The first Proud Boys to seek pardons are bypassing DOJ, which Matt Gaetz was tapped to lead.
