San Diego County Sheriff Announces an Investigation into the Death of a 46-Year-Old Male Inmate from Oceanside

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office is inviting the public to provide feedback on a preliminary vehicle grant application submitted on behalf of its Off-Road Enforcement Team (ORET).

Brandon Yates was arrested for burglary. According to a new lawsuit, he was sexually assaulted and murdered by his cellmate.

The lawsuit also states Yates' alleged killer, Alvin Ruis, was known to be violent and sheriff's department policies dictated he should not have been housed with anyone else. Ruis has since been charged with Yates' murder and awaits trial.
